2019 Holiday Amsterdam

We met up with our friends in Uk and have caught a plane into AMSTERDAM. How different. We are loving walking the streets looking at all the architecture, bikes and canals.

SOOOOOOO many bikes.

Have heard how many are stolen, discarded or lost each year and have forgotten the exact number . . . but it is in the hundreds of thousands.

Visited the Art Galleries to view the Van Gogh paintings and all the other incredible works . . .  never tire of all the talented people and history.

Staying in a quaint little hotel called 'The Bird', on canal with great views and in easy walking distance to everything.

Can you spot The Boys waiting patiently for me to stop taking photos.
Baskets of flowers are gorgeous.

Had breakfast in this very interesting cafe . . .  lady was not impressed that we wished to dine at the ungodly hour of 8am . .  . Loved glowing photo projected on glass, on the ceiling.

Did the hop on hop off canal boat and bus tours . . .  on and off here, there and everywhere.

We all like Amsterdam . . . ( am sorry to be leaving Arron here in Amsterdam when we move onto the Cruise ship for a fortnight, which will take us through to BUDAPEST, where we will meet up with Arron for another week in an AirBnB, before moving onto Singapore. We hope he has a great time alone in Amsterdam !!!!! ) And for us  . . . . let the magic continue.

Decided the Dutch need to use their bicycles to get about . . . so they don't all get very fat!
Another day in Amsterdam touring by bus and ending up at Muiderslot Castle
We have been so very lucky with the weather. Gorgeous garden. Lovely day.

Barely time for a bit of shopping.
I love the antique shops, but avoided the ceramics and knickknacks. As usual settled on the jewelry which I think shows the craftsmanship of a country. It is a wonderful reminder of a holiday and easy to transport.

The hardest thing is choosing . . . Decided these old glass trading beads will be great to make a necklace with silver clasp. Earrings and a ring with tourmaline gemstones reflect the antique and modern. Lovely!

Last morning. A walk to restaurant for breakfast and then onto art gallery for a final look. Love walking. Reflections on water reminds me of Venice. Then at 4pm, back to Hotel where we had a last cuppa while waiting for our taxi, to take four of us to join our ship for cruise to Budapest . . .
Arron, not interested in joining the geriatrics, will make his own way. See you in two weeks Arron!

Goodbye AMSTERDAM  -  WILL BE BACK!!

Singapore - last stop

Last stop. Left Arron at Dubai airport as he is on his way back to Brisbane.  While we are  staying in Singapore, to indulge in some rest, before we return to  the dry.  Today we ventured over to the Botanical gardens. Had a delightful wander for 4 hours, to be chased away by thunderous rain after lunch . . .  back to hotel for a rest.   Caught a taxi to Little India. Celebrations went on all night. We stayed in the shopping centers, as they are open 24 hours and air conditioned. Interesting array of goods. When we came out around midnight there were thousands of people and the traffic was at a standstill. Had to walk to the Hilton to ask them to call a taxi . . . I bought a couple of extravagant, over the top pieces. (I will be ready for when we go to our next Indian wedding.) Also, some batik material and some embroidered silk. . .promise, that is it! Quiet day - reading and relaxing followed by a taxi drive around the city. Today we wandered over ...

JAPAN April - June 2024

OMG! What an adventure. First time on a organized tour with other people. 21 days of full on tours and activities. Land and cruise combined. Would do it again. More later.

Holiday 2019 Amsterdam to Budapest - 14 day River Cruise. Magnificent Europe.

Day 1 - 5 pm  On board welcome reception, and first meal. If this is an indication of what we can expect, I think we will all be a little heavier at end of trip. Scrumptious five courses, with wine and Champagne. Day 2  Amsterdam :  Canal cruise, lunch and walking tour, overnight on ship.  Very comfortable accommodation . . . attentive staff. Huge selection for breakfast. I love the waffles!! Eggs, a dozen ways, cooked by a chef, on the spot . . . bliss!!  And Champagne! Day 3  Cologne :  Good night sleep. Very comfy bed. Up 6am, to breakfast 7am. Another feast! 8am in lounge ready to go on tour of the old city.  Germany’s fourth-largest city boasts a long and colourful history. For the past 2,000 years, Cologne has served as a melting pot for a host of nationalities. First the Romans, then the French, came to Cologne. They were followed by emigrants from Eastern Europe and Turkey, and by urban newcomers from the German provinces such ...
